Not sure whether you need to file? The government’s guide to checking if you need a tax return is a good start, or simply ask us. Behind on earlier years? We can bring them up to date. You can also build a quote on our Get a quote page.

Questions we get asked
When is the self assessment deadline?
Online returns, and the payment of any tax owed, are due by 31 January after the end of the tax year. Paper returns are due earlier, by 31 October. If you are new to self assessment, you need to register with HMRC by 5 October after the end of the tax year in which you first had income to report.
What happens if I miss the deadline?
HMRC charges an automatic penalty for a late return, with further penalties and interest the longer it goes on. If you have missed a deadline, talk to us as soon as possible and we will help you put it right.
Do I need to register for self assessment?
If you have income that is not taxed at source, such as self-employment, rental income or larger amounts of savings, dividend or investment income, you may need to. We will check and register you if so.
What is Making Tax Digital for Income Tax?
It is a phased change that will require some self-employed people and landlords to keep digital records and send updates to HMRC, depending on their income. We can tell you whether and when it applies to you.
