What’s included

Clear, careful work with no jargon

If you’re a contractor, you need to verify your subcontractors, make the right deductions and file a return every month. If you’re a subcontractor, tax is often taken from your pay before you see it, and you may be owed some back. Our CIS accountants in London work with both sides of the scheme.

If you’re new to it, the Construction Industry Scheme can feel confusing, so we explain it plainly and keep your records in order. You can also build a quote on our Get a quote page. As a CIS accountant in London, we also check whether you may be owed a refund of tax deducted during the year.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

What are the CIS deduction rates?

Contractors normally deduct 20% from registered subcontractors and 30% from those who aren’t registered. Subcontractors with gross payment status are paid without deductions.

When is the monthly CIS return due?

Returns are due by the 19th of the month after the tax month ends, and tax months run from the 6th to the 5th. We keep track so you don’t have to.

Can I claim back CIS deductions?

Often yes. If the deductions taken are more than your tax bill after expenses, you may be due a refund. We’ll work this out when preparing your return.

What is gross payment status?

It lets eligible subcontractors receive payment with no deductions. There are turnover and compliance tests to meet, and we can check whether you qualify.
